On Target Fiber Optic Technician Travis Hartford and Telecom Line Worker Andrew Baker demonstrated their commitment to USIC’s core value of safety in acting to help injured members of their community.
Travis was in his fiber optic splicing van when he heard two loud thuds, the sounds of a woman being struck by a truck and hitting the ground after being launched into the air, and he sprang into action. With prior training as an emergency medical technician, he checked the unconscious woman’s vitals and stabilized her neck to keep her airway open and monitored her for signs of distress until emergency responders arrived.
Andrew, a member of the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, responded to an early morning call to assist a member of the community experiencing chest pain. When he arrived, EMTs were administering Advanced Life Support to a man in full cardiac arrest. Having received CPR training through On Target, Andrew was able to take over for the EMT administering chest compressions and provide life-saving care to the man, who survived the medical emergency.
Thank you, Travis and Andrew, for taking action to aid members of the community in life-threatening emergencies!
